Wim Ramaekers accepted the Lean and Green Award on behalf of Transcargo in Rotterdam on Tuesday 4 November. This award is presented to organizations that demonstrate by means of an action plan that they are able to achieve CO2 reductions of at least 20% within five years.
Lean and Green is a programme run by Connekt, encouraging organizations to grow to a higher level of sustainability. That level can be reached by taking measures that deliver cost savings and reduce the environmental impact. Transcargo has already made considerable progress in this process. For instance, emissions have already been greatly reduced by modifying certain routes, and green energy is purchased in order to reduce the impact on the environment. Transcargo also wants to use its receipt of the Lean and Green Award to strengthen cooperation with notable clients. Another important aspect is the setting up and implementation of a management system that allows the organization to implement structural improvements in the field of CO2 reductions.
In recent years, Transcargo has already made huge efforts to reduce its CO2 emissions: electricity and gas consumption have already been greatly reduced. The action plan on the basis of which the Lean and Green Award was presented also contains descriptions of further measures to considerably reduce emissions over the coming years.
